Getting started

How do I request a roofing estimate?

Use our roofing inquiry form to share your contact details, community, and roofing concerns. We’ll follow up to discuss your roof and arrange the next step. Submitting the form does not confirm an appointment.

Do I need a repair or a full replacement?

That starts with an inspection. We’ll look at the condition of your roof and explain whether a repair makes sense or whether replacement deserves consideration. Our goal is to recommend the work your home needs and explain why. Learn about roof repairs.

What areas do you serve?

We serve homeowners across the Tri-Cities and surrounding communities, including Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, and Elizabethton. See our service area or include your location when you contact us.

Can I send photos of my roof?

Yes. The roofing inquiry form accepts up to three JPG, PNG, or WebP photos, with a maximum of 10 MB per photo and 20 MB total. Photos are optional and stay private. Take them only from a safe location on the ground; you do not need to climb onto your roof.

Choosing your roof

Can you help me compare shingles and metal?

Absolutely. We’ll talk through your home, priorities, and budget so you can compare architectural shingles, exposed-fastener metal, and Standing Seam. Our roofing options page explains the differences before you make a decision.

What determines the price of my roofing project?

The scope of work, roof size and complexity, material selection, access, and any needed decking or flashing work all affect the estimate. We’ll explain what is included in the proposed scope so you can make an informed decision.

What warranty options are available?

Coverage depends on the roofing system and the written warranty selected for your project. Appalachian Roofing Co. is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster PRO and can offer eligible systems with SureStart PLUS enhanced warranty protection. Eligibility, installation requirements, registration, and exclusions apply. Explore roofing warranties and review the specific coverage with us before choosing your system.

Your project, step by step

How long will my roofing project take?

Timing depends on the size and complexity of the roof, the work required, material availability, and weather. We’ll discuss the expected schedule for your project and communicate changes as the work progresses.

How should I prepare for installation?

Before work starts, we’ll discuss access, parking, outdoor belongings, and any property concerns with you. Let us know about pets, landscaping, or anything else that needs special attention. Keep children and pets clear of the work area during installation.

What happens after the roof is installed?

Our process includes cleanup, a walkthrough, and the applicable project and warranty documentation. We’ll discuss care questions and any follow-up needs with you. See our roofing process.

Can builders submit plans for a new home?

Yes. Our new construction form lets builders share project details and optionally upload PDF plans or photos. Files stay private. Include your location and anticipated schedule so we can discuss the roofing scope.

Decking & fascia

What happens if you find damaged decking or fascia?

We assess whether the condition prevents proper roofing or gutter installation, document what we find, and explain the necessary correction. Additional work follows the agreed proposal or approved change-order process before it proceeds. Conditions beyond our project scope may require coordination with an appropriate specialist.

Will you show me what you find?

Yes. We’ll explain the condition and why it matters, using photographs where practical. Our goal is for you to understand the correction and how it will be handled under the agreed authorization process.

Is wood replacement included in my estimate?

Your written proposal identifies any wood replacement already included, any allowance, and how additional concealed work will be priced and authorized. Inclusion varies by project; ask us to review these details before work begins.

Chimneys & flashing

What is chimney flashing?

Flashing is the system of pieces and connections that manages water where the roof meets the chimney. Its configuration depends on the roof and chimney construction. Explore the roof details that matter.

Can you just reseal the flashing around my chimney?

Sometimes an appropriate sealant repair is part of the solution. First, we assess whether the flashing and surrounding materials are functioning properly. Repeated patching can indicate an underlying problem, but the amount of sealant alone does not establish the cause.

Does my chimney need a cricket?

A cricket is a small, sloped structure behind a chimney that helps divert water around it. Not every chimney needs one. We’ll evaluate the chimney’s size and position, roof geometry, and applicable requirements, then explain whether one is needed. Learn about chimney crickets.

What if you find an incorrectly installed flashing detail?

We document the condition, explain the recommended correction, and handle additional work through the agreed proposal or approved change-order process. Conditions outside our roofing scope may require an appropriate specialist.
